Update

I hurt my right wrist a couple of weeks ago so I'm letting it heal and rest for a little while, and that's why I haven't had anything to update this with lately. Thanks for visiting though! I hope to be back to the range soon.

Sunday's Match

Ok, so today I was a little better but not much. Really sore and about the only thing that helped was the hot shower. My sweet hubby had stayed up till 10pm last night making me ammo just in case I shot today (Isn't that sweet!) But my second shot in it jammed! Looks like the new ammo is in need of a little fine tuning. So my friend let me use his ammo. I ended up having a few problems, like not slamming the mag in hard enough and just silly things, I was very tired and not all there. I guess I did ok on the first round but the second really sucked, most of the shooters were having problems, but I still think I did the worst. 13 steel targets to knock over, I managed to use 4 8round mags and still run out and wasn't able to get the last one. One note, my friends ammo is a lot hotter then what I load, so it's a little harder for me (but thats no excuse for pore shooting!) But round three I guess I was getting into it (to bad it was the last round) Shot the 2 steels and 8 shots in four paper targets, all A shots in the chest, even around a couple of hostages! So not as great as I would have liked but I have to give myself credit after my fall, just that I could make myself get up early and go to the range. In the end though I'm glad I did.
As for my VERY FIRST match 2 weeks ago, I got the scores in, lets see I came in 15th out of 16. Not what I was thinking was going to happen, I really thought I did better then that, but again it was my very first match ever (also the very first time to ever shoot my rock!) So lets see for any one this might mean something too my score was 69.70 and 30.56% (Whatever that means) Now the next person on the score sheet had 71.29 with 31.26% so I wasn't far from 14th place. But a lot of the guys shooting in this are pros with scores of 223.99! So I don't feel so bad. I have a lot of fun though. I will be very happy when I get my new ammo working right. Oh and the new puppy had a lot of fun out at the range too! It looks like he is closer to 3 or 4 months old.

Friday 3/25/11

Yesterday was a rather interesting day.
Started by going to the range, I put the target out a little farther at 25 yards.  Had some problems with the 9mm ammo, it looks like the 4 grains of Unique we've been using is just on the edge of not being enough to eject the shell. So I shot about 100 rounds with the Beretta, then I went to shooting a gong at 20 yards with the Rock and did good, only shot about 35 rounds, I needed to save most of my .45 ammo for Sunday's shoot. I tried out our new 200 grain SWC rounds that we made. Only one jammed and it looks like it wasn't sized right but the rest went great.
I had an hour appointment in the middle of the day, so off I went, and when my husband and son showed up to pick me up, of all things, he had a puppy in his arms! Well, with 4 dogs already I was looking at him a little crossly, or at least till the pup jumped into my arms. Ok, so the story is that they went to the animal shelter (thats where most of our animals come from) But before he got inside a lady pulled up got out and handed him this dog. She works and couldn't take care of him, she found him wandering the streets a week ago, skin and bones. She doesn't want him to get put down (the shelter can't even call if that is going to happen!) so my husband agreed to take him and try and find him a home, if he couldn't he would call her before considering going to the shelter with him.
Needless to say, I think he found a home. He looks to be about 12 weeks old or maybe a little older. He seems to be Chihuahua/rat tarrier mix, very small, all white with a lavender nose (I know it sounds funny, but it's true) and apple green eyes! Not very good pics this time but there will be more. My husband calls him Taz, but his official name (As named by the guys at the range and me) is Savage O'Neall La Blanc.
So you can see next to my normal sized pillow that he is small. but oh so cute!
A little blurry but cute!

Ok, so we get home, and any of you following my blog knows about Charlie. Well we left him loose in the house while we were gone. We had stopped by the store and picked up a bottle of wine and some cheese. So I have bag with the wine and cheese in one hand, and a puppy in the other, and unlock the door and Charlie charges me wanting out! So I've got my hands full, so the only thing I can think to do is use my legs to keep him in place till my husband can get there. Well I'm basically trying to sit on Charlie, and he just keeps pushing and he pushed me of the front steps backwards (oh yea I was up two cinder block steps) our path to the front door is red brick. I smacked my head rather good. Mostly at the time I was worried about the puppy in my arms, once I knew he was ok, I was worried about if I had broken the wine bottle, and by some miracle I hadn't! So I just had a bad headache for a while but then forgot all about it last night. I woke up this morning with a splitting headache almost a migraine, a stiff neck, and stiff other parts, bruises all over, a good an painful lump on my head, unable to handle noise, and an upset stomach. All I could do was sleep as much as I could and not move. I slept till after noon then was able to eat a little and get some pain killers in and some nice hot cocoa. I'm still really stiff, and using my laptop in bed is about all I can do, in fact now I need to lay down and do some more sleeping. OUCH! I'm just really praying that I'll be ok enough tomorrow to compete! Oh well, I guess thats what happens when your accident prone! Wish me luck.

Shooting on Friday and Sunday

Ok, I've been a little remiss in my blogging, but I'm back.
So on friday I did some good shooting with the Beretta, and I'll be getting some pictures soon. I really like shooting it, it also has red dot sights that the 1911 doesn't have (yet). Saturday I watched a local match, I don't know that I care for the format much though. Got there a little to late to shoot.
Sunday though was very fun! Went to my first IDPA match. There was only 5 of us, and of course, I was the only woman. Considering it was my first IDPA match I did good (And that most of the guys are pros that go to matches across the country!) I came in 4th of 5 so not bad for my first try.  Found out I will probably need a reduction system for my 1911. I got in my new Fobus holster the C-21 paddle holster and 3 Chip MacCormick Match grade mags! I sure do know how to brake the bank.
I've been having these almost migraine like headaches lately, the other night it had me up till 2am. I need to figure out what's going on because if I can't get rid of the headaches I wont be able to shoot this weekend. Any one have a solution besides pain killers?
Have a bangtastic day (Just not near my head!)

Yesterday at the Range! All our Ammo "Problems" Solved

Yesterday I got to take the new guns out to brake it (with the serious hope of not braking them!)
I was a bit nervous because all we had to shoot was the reloads we had done for the KAHR.
I told my husband that at the first failure, I didn't care what kind of failure, he was to STOP and asses what that hell was going on, and not just keep shooting, and to call me over to figure it out, and if we couldn't between us take it over to the range master. Well I got a little shanghighed for the first couple of hours! There was an IPSC match that I had been invited to watch by a friend of mine who is an NRA Instructor. I went up and watched a little then was invited to join the group for the days match. I did, and my friend was my guide and was the one timing me and helping me with everything (He even gave me the right kind of holster, 3 Chip McCormick mags, his reloaded ammo, and payed my way for the day!) I hadn't even shot my Rock yet so I was nervous to say the least! Ok I guess I did good, learned some things about my gun that I didn't know! We'll see the scores in 2 weeks. I was also invited to and IDPA match next weekend by the same friend, he really wants to teach me a lot  and help me get into competitions. I did learn how many mags and what kind I needed, and what kind of holster I would need, and what kind of ammo was best for target shooting. I then got to shoot some on my own with my own ammo, again very nervous! Annie, in reply to your comment, I wish I had read that before the range, I would have taken that into more consideration. Well I started shooting with our reloads, and I never would have believed it, NOT A SINGLE FAILURE! No failure to feeds, or load or anything! Same goes for the Beretta using our 9mm reloads that the SCCY had so many problems with, not a single problem! What a relief to me, I was really worried that we would have problems!
Brought them home and cleaned them, and except for being very dirty (Unique is a very dirty powder!) no fowling in the barrels at all! I didn't get any pictures, but I shoot rather good if I do say so myself, and some of the people at the IPSC match said so too! I'm exited to learn as much as I can from my friend. I was wanting to go to a Women on Target Shooting Clinic next month, but its about a 5 hour drive away, and now after the new purchases no way we can afford the trip sadly! So we went ahead and spent just a little more money to get going better. A 200 Grain SWC .45 bullet mold, a 102 grain 9mm mold 3 Chip McCormick mags, and a Fobus Paddle holster like the one I used yesterday.
I hope that we can refine our ammo even more so that it shoots better as well. From what I'm learning a 200 grain .45 SWC bullet is a better option then 230 grain because you save on both the lead that you use and cutting down on recoil. I don't know if thats right, it seems there are so many sites out there that it gets confusing as the right info, so if anyone can clarify that for me, I would appreciate it.
Well, now I need to learn as much as I can from the IDPA and IPSC sites so I know what the heck I'm getting into!

Charlie

Charlie two days ago
Please send prayers out for my dog Charlie tonight. Yesterday he got in some trouble chasing the neighbors cats, and he let us know, so we created a pin for him, but tonight he got out the front door. When he came home he was injured, his hips look wrong and his head, he flinches if you move at all and if he tries to sit still he convulses and then his eyes start to roll and he almost falls over. We don't know what is wrong exactly and we don't have an emergency vet around here so no help till Monday, if he makes it that far. Please send him your prayers tonight, he is my 4 year olds best friend and I don't know what it would do to him to loss Charlie. Now I have to try and sleep and not cry all night. Thank you
