Update

I hurt my right wrist a couple of weeks ago so I'm letting it heal and rest for a little while, and that's why I haven't had anything to update this with lately. Thanks for visiting though! I hope to be back to the range soon.

Sunday's Match

Ok, so today I was a little better but not much. Really sore and about the only thing that helped was the hot shower. My sweet hubby had stayed up till 10pm last night making me ammo just in case I shot today (Isn't that sweet!) But my second shot in it jammed! Looks like the new ammo is in need of a little fine tuning. So my friend let me use his ammo. I ended up having a few problems, like not slamming the mag in hard enough and just silly things, I was very tired and not all there. I guess I did ok on the first round but the second really sucked, most of the shooters were having problems, but I still think I did the worst. 13 steel targets to knock over, I managed to use 4 8round mags and still run out and wasn't able to get the last one. One note, my friends ammo is a lot hotter then what I load, so it's a little harder for me (but thats no excuse for pore shooting!) But round three I guess I was getting into it (to bad it was the last round) Shot the 2 steels and 8 shots in four paper targets, all A shots in the chest, even around a couple of hostages! So not as great as I would have liked but I have to give myself credit after my fall, just that I could make myself get up early and go to the range. In the end though I'm glad I did.
As for my VERY FIRST match 2 weeks ago, I got the scores in, lets see I came in 15th out of 16. Not what I was thinking was going to happen, I really thought I did better then that, but again it was my very first match ever (also the very first time to ever shoot my rock!) So lets see for any one this might mean something too my score was 69.70 and 30.56% (Whatever that means) Now the next person on the score sheet had 71.29 with 31.26% so I wasn't far from 14th place. But a lot of the guys shooting in this are pros with scores of 223.99! So I don't feel so bad. I have a lot of fun though. I will be very happy when I get my new ammo working right. Oh and the new puppy had a lot of fun out at the range too! It looks like he is closer to 3 or 4 months old.

Friday 3/25/11

Yesterday was a rather interesting day.
Started by going to the range, I put the target out a little farther at 25 yards.  Had some problems with the 9mm ammo, it looks like the 4 grains of Unique we've been using is just on the edge of not being enough to eject the shell. So I shot about 100 rounds with the Beretta, then I went to shooting a gong at 20 yards with the Rock and did good, only shot about 35 rounds, I needed to save most of my .45 ammo for Sunday's shoot. I tried out our new 200 grain SWC rounds that we made. Only one jammed and it looks like it wasn't sized right but the rest went great.
I had an hour appointment in the middle of the day, so off I went, and when my husband and son showed up to pick me up, of all things, he had a puppy in his arms! Well, with 4 dogs already I was looking at him a little crossly, or at least till the pup jumped into my arms. Ok, so the story is that they went to the animal shelter (thats where most of our animals come from) But before he got inside a lady pulled up got out and handed him this dog. She works and couldn't take care of him, she found him wandering the streets a week ago, skin and bones. She doesn't want him to get put down (the shelter can't even call if that is going to happen!) so my husband agreed to take him and try and find him a home, if he couldn't he would call her before considering going to the shelter with him.
Needless to say, I think he found a home. He looks to be about 12 weeks old or maybe a little older. He seems to be Chihuahua/rat tarrier mix, very small, all white with a lavender nose (I know it sounds funny, but it's true) and apple green eyes! Not very good pics this time but there will be more. My husband calls him Taz, but his official name (As named by the guys at the range and me) is Savage O'Neall La Blanc.
So you can see next to my normal sized pillow that he is small. but oh so cute!
A little blurry but cute!

Ok, so we get home, and any of you following my blog knows about Charlie. Well we left him loose in the house while we were gone. We had stopped by the store and picked up a bottle of wine and some cheese. So I have bag with the wine and cheese in one hand, and a puppy in the other, and unlock the door and Charlie charges me wanting out! So I've got my hands full, so the only thing I can think to do is use my legs to keep him in place till my husband can get there. Well I'm basically trying to sit on Charlie, and he just keeps pushing and he pushed me of the front steps backwards (oh yea I was up two cinder block steps) our path to the front door is red brick. I smacked my head rather good. Mostly at the time I was worried about the puppy in my arms, once I knew he was ok, I was worried about if I had broken the wine bottle, and by some miracle I hadn't! So I just had a bad headache for a while but then forgot all about it last night. I woke up this morning with a splitting headache almost a migraine, a stiff neck, and stiff other parts, bruises all over, a good an painful lump on my head, unable to handle noise, and an upset stomach. All I could do was sleep as much as I could and not move. I slept till after noon then was able to eat a little and get some pain killers in and some nice hot cocoa. I'm still really stiff, and using my laptop in bed is about all I can do, in fact now I need to lay down and do some more sleeping. OUCH! I'm just really praying that I'll be ok enough tomorrow to compete! Oh well, I guess thats what happens when your accident prone! Wish me luck.
Have a bangtastic day!

Shooting on Friday and Sunday

Ok, I've been a little remiss in my blogging, but I'm back.
So on friday I did some good shooting with the Beretta, and I'll be getting some pictures soon. I really like shooting it, it also has red dot sights that the 1911 doesn't have (yet). Saturday I watched a local match, I don't know that I care for the format much though. Got there a little to late to shoot.
Sunday though was very fun! Went to my first IDPA match. There was only 5 of us, and of course, I was the only woman. Considering it was my first IDPA match I did good (And that most of the guys are pros that go to matches across the country!) I came in 4th of 5 so not bad for my first try.  Found out I will probably need a reduction system for my 1911. I got in my new Fobus holster the C-21 paddle holster and 3 Chip MacCormick Match grade mags! I sure do know how to brake the bank.
I've been having these almost migraine like headaches lately, the other night it had me up till 2am. I need to figure out what's going on because if I can't get rid of the headaches I wont be able to shoot this weekend. Any one have a solution besides pain killers?
Have a bangtastic day (Just not near my head!)

Yesterday at the Range! All our Ammo "Problems" Solved

Yesterday I got to take the new guns out to brake it (with the serious hope of not braking them!)
I was a bit nervous because all we had to shoot was the reloads we had done for the KAHR.
I told my husband that at the first failure, I didn't care what kind of failure, he was to STOP and asses what that hell was going on, and not just keep shooting, and to call me over to figure it out, and if we couldn't between us take it over to the range master. Well I got a little shanghighed for the first couple of hours! There was an IPSC match that I had been invited to watch by a friend of mine who is an NRA Instructor. I went up and watched a little then was invited to join the group for the days match. I did, and my friend was my guide and was the one timing me and helping me with everything (He even gave me the right kind of holster, 3 Chip McCormick mags, his reloaded ammo, and payed my way for the day!) I hadn't even shot my Rock yet so I was nervous to say the least! Ok I guess I did good, learned some things about my gun that I didn't know! We'll see the scores in 2 weeks. I was also invited to and IDPA match next weekend by the same friend, he really wants to teach me a lot  and help me get into competitions. I did learn how many mags and what kind I needed, and what kind of holster I would need, and what kind of ammo was best for target shooting. I then got to shoot some on my own with my own ammo, again very nervous! Annie, in reply to your comment, I wish I had read that before the range, I would have taken that into more consideration. Well I started shooting with our reloads, and I never would have believed it, NOT A SINGLE FAILURE! No failure to feeds, or load or anything! Same goes for the Beretta using our 9mm reloads that the SCCY had so many problems with, not a single problem! What a relief to me, I was really worried that we would have problems!
Brought them home and cleaned them, and except for being very dirty (Unique is a very dirty powder!) no fowling in the barrels at all! I didn't get any pictures, but I shoot rather good if I do say so myself, and some of the people at the IPSC match said so too! I'm exited to learn as much as I can from my friend. I was wanting to go to a Women on Target Shooting Clinic next month, but its about a 5 hour drive away, and now after the new purchases no way we can afford the trip sadly! So we went ahead and spent just a little more money to get going better. A 200 Grain SWC .45 bullet mold, a 102 grain 9mm mold 3 Chip McCormick mags, and a Fobus Paddle holster like the one I used yesterday.
I hope that we can refine our ammo even more so that it shoots better as well. From what I'm learning a 200 grain .45 SWC bullet is a better option then 230 grain because you save on both the lead that you use and cutting down on recoil. I don't know if thats right, it seems there are so many sites out there that it gets confusing as the right info, so if anyone can clarify that for me, I would appreciate it.
Well, now I need to learn as much as I can from the IDPA and IPSC sites so I know what the heck I'm getting into!

Charlie

Charlie two days ago
Please send prayers out for my dog Charlie tonight. Yesterday he got in some trouble chasing the neighbors cats, and he let us know, so we created a pin for him, but tonight he got out the front door. When he came home he was injured, his hips look wrong and his head, he flinches if you move at all and if he tries to sit still he convulses and then his eyes start to roll and he almost falls over. We don't know what is wrong exactly and we don't have an emergency vet around here so no help till Monday, if he makes it that far. Please send him your prayers tonight, he is my 4 year olds best friend and I don't know what it would do to him to loss Charlie. Now I have to try and sleep and not cry all night. Thank you

Gun Show

No one has to tell me I'm crazy, because I already know!
RIA 1911A1 FS Tactical
1911 with Hoster and mag clip
So I went to the gun show today and managed to spend an entire months income! Amazingly it was my husband that did all the impulse buying! I knew what I was going there to look for, and I found it! My RIA 1911FS and somehow I amazingly ended up with the Two tone tactical! Ok so my husband ended up getting and SKS (He believe it's a Norinco) and a Mosin Nagant M91/30 Sniper Rifle 1935, I like the look of them, but I'm not much of a rifle girl (at least not yet, we'll see) and the other impulse purchase that is mine (He just doesn't know it yet) was a Beretta 92FS INOX with Hogue rubber grips. A very nice gun, also a month or so ago I had the chance to shoot one! Wow was it nice! So I wonder, I would spend two hours cleaning my not so nice SCCY after each visit to the range, I wonder how many hours per gun I'll spend cleaning the nice ones! I also got a 2 mag belt clip (now I need a second or third mag) a holster and a set of Delta Elite Wraparound Grips for the 1911! All this was about $1500, so I felt we did good.  The only issue with the grips are that the 1911 has ambi safety, and the grips aren't, so I would need to trim the one side and I'm not sure if I should or leave them for another gun or even sell them (I know nothing about them, anybody?)
1911 with Delta Elite Wraparound Grips
I know there is more to tell, but for now I'm so excited I can't even use my brain! Ok so tomorrow is the range test, and I'll be bringing back reports and pictures!
Have a bangtastic day (or night)

Beretta 92FS INOX

RE:Kaboom

I've been getting some emails with questions about the KAHR going boom, and realized I needed to clarify some information.
The same reloads that I was using in the KAHR are what I put through the 1911 yesterday without a hiccup (Not to mention a good tight group)
When I said that 1 or 2 out of every five was having problems, I was referring to failure to fire, it would strike the primer but it wouldn't hit hard enough to actually fire the round, and I had the same problem firing factory ammo as well. When the gun blew up, it was the end of a very long struggle to find ammo that it would shoot well.
My husband and I had both taken it apart, cleaned it, and tried to determine what was going on just the day before this happened.
I was very disappointed about this gun blowing up, I really like shooting a .45 vs 9mm, and I was glad I had already decided to get a 1911.
Part of the problem is that when we got this gun for personal defense and home defense, we had no intention of using it as a target gun. As time went on, I learned that I love to shoot and we started reloading for them. Neither the SCCY or the KAHR are designed to be target guns or shot a lot with, and that is one reason I decided to get a 1911 was for it's durability on the range, but I truly wish I still had the KAHR. If anyone is interested in the spare parts, just let me know, I'm sure I can work something out.
I hope this clarifies some of the information

My first time with a 1911!

1911
I am no longer a 1911 virgin! Ok, I was looking forward to today sense Sunday! So I got to shoot a 1911 for the first time. A very nice man from the range last week said he would be at the range today and bring it for me, what I didn't know was that he wasn't even there to shoot, just let me shoot. Very generous! My take on it,  I CAN'T WAIT TO HAVE MY OWN! It was so smooth, and just felt great. Pictures of my first target, now I labeled the shoots the owner of the gun took, I think you can only see 2 of his on the picture. He was just shooting rounds that failed to feed or had other problems the first time around (FTF was his reloads).
Ruger 10/22
I was shooting a Regent 1911 (I've read some really bad reviews of this gun, but I didn't really see any problems) This was 4 7rd mags.

1911

My second target (For some reason the pictures are on their sides, but you get the idea)

Now I hadn't ever tried using the open sights on the 10/22 rifle, so this was my first try :) I like to work close and move back so I think this was 7 yards, same as the 1911.

I'll be taking my camera tomorrow to the gun show (I'm planning on going both Saturday and Sunday!) and bring back some reports. Sunday I get to go see my first match (don't ask me what kind, I think it's IDPA but I'm not sure) and maybe even do a little shooting myself. I have also been invited to participate in a competition later in the month and shoot a couple matches (that is the IDPA).

I'm also being given the opportunity to shoot a few more 1911's on Sunday! I'm turning into a 1911 slut!
I'll be getting to try a RIA, Springfield Armory, and if you can believe it, an S&W! I am so excited, and I'll make a point of having a camera with me (and a memory card! I would have had pictures of the Regent, but I forgot my SD card at home!) Ok, lots of updates and pictures coming in the next few days so check back often!
Have a Bangtastic day!

What do you think the muzzle velocity on those are? What a pack of DOGS!

Rosie

Rosie
I couldn't help myself tonight! I know you have already seen 2 of my 4 babies, BUT, I was able to get pics of all of them in just the last hour. Ok, so introductions! This is Rosie the Blue Tic Hound, who it turns out is shy! Say Hi Rosie! Sadly Rosie is gun shy too!

Gertrude
Next up is Gertrude or "Gerty", who is the newest edition to the family, she is a blue heeler. Try to get a blue heeler to sit still for a picture! Gertrude is about 8 months old.
Charlie

And of course are venerable King Charles.

Winston
And last but certainly not least is my littlest one of them all (even if he isn't very small any more!) Winston! Who is currently laying across my knee caps
causing my legs from the knee down to
go numb! Oh and he just started snoring
as I write this! Could he get any cuter?

And in other news, we recently had a fire come very near our house (1/2 a mile away) and we were very blessed that the wind didn't shift or we would not have a home right now. I got some pictures of the smoke, but no flames. This picture doesn't have any of the black smoke in it, but over a dozen homes were lost and a lot of acres. On this day we had 50mph winds with gusts up to 75mph. It was very scary!

A great quote

I am quoting Rachel's blog because I completely agree with her!
"Shame on you America:
the only country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed without eating, elderly going without needed meds, and mentally ill without treatment-yet we have a benefit for the people of Haiti on 12 TV stations. Raising over 57 million already. 99% of the people won't have the guts to copy and repost this.

Can't take care of anyone else, if you can't take care of yourself. And obviously...WE CAN'T."

Thank you!

My Babies!

2 of my 4 babies were just to cute tonight and I had to take pictures and share. Winston, who is a bull mastiff/Hound/Lab, who as an 8 week old pup when we got him was THEE UGLIEST PUPPY EVER! But as he grows (Will be 21 weeks on Wednesday!) he's become a hansom dog!
Winston
And my other baby (who is currently barking in his sleep!) Charlie who is about 4 now, sleeps in my son's room with him allot now has the most gentile mouth ever! All we know is he is part chow (black tong)
Charlie
My sweet babies!

Today at the Range!

We spent 3-4 hours at the range today, mostly on the 9mm but a little of the .22 rifle.
I shot the last 5 paper plates I needed to qualify for my Pro-Marksman badge! I also shot 4 of my qualifiers for the Marksman Badge!!! I'm so excited, next Friday, a guy at the range is going to bring his 1911 for me to shoot! And then the gun show is next weekend so I 'll be able to get my RIA! Ok, now on to the pictures! First up is my last 5 qualifying for my Pro-Marksman

Now the 4 that are qualifiers for Marksman
I put about 225 rounds though it and I had really dirty hands

This is after a couple of hours after I was done shooting. I have little hands and today they are only sore after all the shooting instead of in pain. The grips on that KAHR .45 always ripped up my hand so after a couple hundred rounds in the .45 my hands burn. I'm excited to try the 1911 because I'm sure it's going to feel great!

Holster and Grips!

Ok, so I can't wait for my RIA to start looking at accesories :) So I think so far I have found at least one holster I want and a pair of grips as well. (IF anyone would like to buy either for me I would be happy to give you the address to send them too :)
The SuperTuck Deluxe from IWB
And this pair of beautiful grips off ebay

COLT 1911 GI GUN GRIPS SOLID PEWTER w/ SCROLL ENGRAVED

I just can't stop drooling!!! Somebody slap me?

KABOOM!

WOW! I just got back from the range today (Usually go on Fridays) and I have one less gun now!
The KAHR CW-45 blew up!( pictures below)
So now, I am even more eager to get my RIA 1911. I know in my previose posts I wanted the Taurus, however after much reasearch, I have realized that RIA (Rock Island Armory) 1911 is better and also a little easier on the wallet. I've been shooting so much of the KAHR every week that my hand is getting a callus.
I got to hold an RIA at the local pawn shop, and it felt like silk! I can't wait to get it. I'm trying to wait till after the gun show next weekend so that I can see what they have.
Have a bangtastic day. Mama A

Friday Shooting

Friday we went out  to the range, even though there was a bit of wind. I'm working on the NRA/Winchester Marksmanship program, and I got 5 of my first ten qualifying targets (In this case it's paper plates) Only five more to go to get my Pro Marksman patch and other stuff. I'm posting pictures of my first 5 qualifying plates, marked Q1 Q2, ect...

Now on my fifth qualifying target, I was really exited. If you notice, the other four are .45 holes. On 5 they are .22's. A guy showed up at the range shortly before we left, and he had just bought the Ruger MK III, same one mentioned in my previous posts. He let me shot it, and now I KNOW I really want that gun! Ok, so by time I got to 5, I was very exhausted (Already put 200 rounds through the .45), so I wasn't shooting even close to my best (I was also sick, but damned if I was going to miss a second week of shooting, the week before it had been high winds :(
Our Range is only open Fri-Sat-Sun of each week, and there isn't any other place to shoot near by.

Have a good week, Till next blog!

Ruger MKIII

Ok, for my competition guns I want the Taurus 1911, for details see my first blog.  And for my seconds I want the Ruger Mark III Deluxe 22 LR with Cocobola Grips LTD Edition and that you can find at Impacts Guns and search the Ruger MKIII, a very prety gun, also. I've had a chance to hold one of these boys, and you would never guess at it's weight! But it looks like so much fun! Ok, must stop drooling now :)

Easiest Salsa EVER!

I like my chips and salsa, but I really don't care for most salsas out there. I can up with (ALRIGHT! My husband thought of it) a way of making a really easy and fast salsa.

What you need:
1 bag of chips (Or as many as you think you might need.
1 can of Rotel with lime and cilantro

Blend rotel till you have your desired consistency, put in a bowl and dig in!

My First Blog!

If your reading this, this is my first blog, and I'm starting this blog because my husband thinks I'm a gun nut and need some place to talk about it.

You can call me "Mama A" the Pistol Pack'n Mama.

Right now I'm working on getting my NRA/Winchester Marksmanship qualifications for both handgun and rifle. With the hopes of becoming a competitive shooter.

I Currently own a SCCY CPX-2 9MM handgun as my self-defense and carry gun (it's just so nice and small, and for a small woman I wanted a higher caliber then .22 or a .32) and my husband has a KAHR CW-45 and I really enjoy shooting that one for fun. We have a .22lr Rifle, but I've become board very easily with it do to the fact it's just to easy (even at 100yards, just can't miss!). What I do enjoy in the rifles is our Mini 14, that is so nice to shoot. I don't care to much for the BANG of the 30-06, its rough on my little shoulders. We reload our own ammo and cast lead bullets, and I've gotten into shooting around 4 or 5 hundred rounds a week between .45acp (My fave) and 9MM.

I really (REALLY) am looking forward to saving enough for a 1911.  I have found the most beautiful gun I've ever seen. I wonder if it's the most beautiful gun ever made! Its a Taurus 8+1 Round 45 ACP Stainless Barrel with Gold Highlights and bullshead Walnut Grips, and it's my dream gun! If your interested in seeing it's beauty it's at http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/59341

In the future I plan on taking lots of pictures of my weekly shooting range trips and of my targets ect.... but for now, at least you know a little more about me, or at least my guns :) Check out my profile to learn more about me. Thanks for reading and have a BANGTASTIC Day.
